Destiny should give their subscribers some rebates! Browsing is slower than dial up and most sites won't even load. *sigh* I envy those Bayantel DSL subscribers. Globe and Destiny's connections are screwed. Dammit. Watta new year.

After totally losing my internet connection even to local websites for 2 days, myDestiny went back up a few hours ago. There were lucky myDestiny subscribers (new guys) who didn't lose their connection, lucky bastards. But for old-schoolers like me, it was hell for 2 days. I learned that old subscribers where being re-routed to Globe Telecom's backup lines while the newer ones where on Destiny's backup. EVERYTHING IS SLOW! :~(
Globe also sent this advisory:
Globe/Innove Advisory: You may experience difficulty making outgoing IDD calls, sending international text, roaming in some countries, and accessing internet via your mobile phone. This is related to the damage caused by the Taiwan earthquake last December26 on international cables affecting all telcos. Network restoration is currently ongoing. We assure you that service will be made available the soonest possible time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Weird thing though, my Adsense earnings went up 65% yesterday :))
Browsing international sites are still slow. I can now open my emails from Google and Yahoo and I was able to login at Gtalk and Yahoo! Messenger for a few minutes earlier. I still cannot open my blog at Blogger. My Adsense' earnings have plummeted too. *sigh*
It's just weird how the internet has changed our lives.
This whole Quake-Internet problem made me rethink of getting a second internet line, backup of sorts. My life and business rely heavily on the internet. Destiny's fast, but whenever there are IPL-related problems, their service sucks. They lack the proper backup lines to serve their subscribers. Unlike PLDT DSL and Bayantel DSL subscribers, I still cannot access a lot of international sites, including my emails from Yahoo and Google.
The poster above is a new service for PLDT, called NGN. For P888/mo, you get a landline plus DSL connection bundled together. I called PLDT 171 a few minutes ago and the CSR told me that the NGN service is only available in limited areas. And if I wanted to apply, I needed to go to the nearest business center for more info and to know if we could retain our telephone number. Our PLDT line has been active since the 1960s and this is vintage material.
According to Inquirer.net, this internet outage might last for 3 weeks or more. Must go to PLDT tomorrow. Need internet. Dammit.
This is not the typical Destiny Cable I've known for the last 7 years. They seldom send out advisories to their subscribers via email or even their website if there's something wrong with their service.

But I have to admit. They've really improved from the first day they installed my cable modem. Those were the days when everyone was still in dial-up and broadband access was just limited to handfuls.
A lot of broadband providers are now offering cheaper packages compared to Destiny but I rather stay with Destiny, the ISP that help boost my interests on computers and the internet. And besides, Destiny Cable's the pioneer of broadband access in the Philippines.
Whew! I'm on a VOX blogging spree.. I cannot access my Blogger account, email, and everything else. /heh I'm starting to think that VOX servers are located in the Philippines.

Ok, I take it back. myDestiny doesn't sucks. This explains why I cannot browse some websites.
Taiwan quake damages RP Internet links

BayanTel spokesman John Rojo confirmed this and said he was not sure when normal services would resume.
In a separate interview, Wilson Chua, Internet Service Provider owner, said that there was “massive damage” in the international links.
Chua said his connection to at least four major telecommunications firms -- Globe Telecommunications, BayanTel, Digitel, and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. -- had been down since this morning.
PLDT officials could not be reached for comment as of posting time.
At least three Internet cafes in Manila visited by INQUIRER.net had been closed due to the service interruptions.
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the southern Taiwanese town of Hengchun Wednesday, killing two and triggering a regional tsunami alert.
